How I change my Goals for 2020

We are all in lockdown/ quarantine and to be honest, it felt like my goals were also in lockdown. But I came to the realization that that should not be the case. I can change my goals to fit my current situation. Goals should be flexible and not hinder you on your way to your destination.

Since the lockdown/quarantine I had time to reflect on my goals and I decided to change my goals for 2020. In this post I share how I changed my goals for 2020

To be honest, when they announced the lockdown, the last thing on my mind was the goals that I’ve set for myself this year. You know, everyone said that 2020 will be their year, myself included. But 2020 had other plans.

After three weeks of being at home, I remembered that I actually set goals for the year and I thought that I should revisit them and probably change my goals to reflect my lifestyle better. If you want to read the goals that I’ve set you can read them here in this post.

I recently was browsing YouTube. And as you know, YouTube is always suggesting and recommending new videos for you to watch. So they suggest a video from Erin May Henry for me and the title of the video was “the planning habit that is changing my life: my new goals”. So because I was thinking that I should change my goals, I had to watch this video for inspiration.

I would highly recommend this video because it gave me some really great food for thought about how I can change my goals. She explains the difference between variable goals and fixed goals. In a nutshell, I can explain it like this:

Variable goals are result orientated, and thus also the outcome of the work you have to put in.

Fixed goals are action-orientated and put the focus on the work that you can put into the goal’s outcome and you can do that consistently.

MY 2020 GOALS CHANGED

If you have read my goals for 2020, you will know that I’ve divided my goals into 7 categories. So I am going to revisit all the categories and see where I can change my goals to better suit my lifestyle now.

CAREER GOALS

  • ORIGINAL GOAL: Set up an additional income stream

One of my main goals for my career was to set up an additional income stream. I am a senior architectural technologist, which is in the construction industry. Which is, as you know closed as well. So long story short – no income for me.

So to set up another form of income is vital at this stage. But I am having trouble finding the right fit. And most income streams does take a while to get off the ground.

  • NEW GOAL: Additional income stream

I am still looking at the following for additional income, but because I am relatively new in the blogging world, it is not as easy as you would think.

  • Affiliate marketing
  • See where this blog takes me and if I can turn it into an income
  • Finding another type of side hustle

FINANCIAL GOALS

ORIGINAL GOAL: Become debt-free

NEW GOAL: Do the best I can in my finances

This will probably not happen. But I will luckily be finishing off my student loan in May. Which I am super happy about.

I will see how I will manage my money to the best of my abilities to not go too far into the red!

SPIRITUAL GOALS

ORIGINAL GOAL: Starting better habits when it comes to my spiritual life

“Read my Bible daily and also show more gratitude for the things in my life. I started with a journal that I would list a minimum of two things that I am grateful for that day.

NEW GOAL: Starting better habits when it comes to my spiritual life

To be honest this was really difficult for me the past month. But I am feeling better and I am trying to stay positive. So all I have to do is to pick up where I left off. So I do not have to change this goal.

PHYSICAL GOALS

  • ORIGINAL GOALS:
  • Get toned and lose that 4kg that has been nagging me for ages
  • Drink a minimum of 1 liter of water a day
  • Drink my vitamins every day
  • Improve my personal style

NEW GOALS: Just be healthy

I wanted to lose 4kg so bad, but it feels like my body just wanted to keep it. So I decided to change my mindset and move away from thinking of losing the 4kg and just focus on being healthy. So, I am doing what I can during this lockdown/quarantine to be healthy. This includes exercising a few times a week and I try to eat the best I can.

I am working my way up to drinking that 1 liter of water a day. 😉 not successful yet, but getting there!

I have been quite good at taking my vitamins every day. So gold star for me here!

Improving my personal style was such a big thing that I wanted to achieve. I had so many ideas and looked at so many pictures for inspiration. But for now, I am putting it on hold because the money that I wanted to spend on new items for my wardrobe has to go somewhere else.

INTELLECTUAL GOALS

ORIGINAL GOALS: Learn new skills – photography & calligraphy

NEW GOAL: Learn new skill – photography

Like I mentioned in my goals post, I wanted to pick up photography skills. Just learning to take awesome photos with my husband’s DSLR camera. But that also flew off my radar when lockdown hit.

I’ve heard that Skillshare has awesome courses in photography. So I have been considering opening an account with them. I also decided to focus on just one skill at a time. You can only do so much.

FAMILY & SOCIAL GOALS

ORIGINAL GOAL:Just connect with all of my friends more and getting together more frequently.

Also, connect with my husband more. I notice that if you are not careful it is so easy to start living past each other. So I am still marinading on a few ideas on how I can accomplish this.

NEW GOAL: Well I think when this lockdown is over, the friends and family will get together all the time! This will be also so much easier because everyone will want to see each other.

For hubby and me? Well, I decided to make more effort into arranging date nights in the month. That way, we are connecting more.

To help me stay on track this time with my goals, I decided to make a goal setting worksheet. But I also realized that many of my goals are habit-based, like exercising and drinking water.
